A nice cossack officer's shashka (caucasian type) XIX century is in an excellent condition. Blade has 2 wide fullers, without stamps. Blade was made before frame. Silver granulated hilt shows great example of jeweller's art. Hilt and frame made by Georgian makers, hilt signed by author. Decorated by two engraved ornaments. Original gilding. Wooden scabbard fitted by black leather, with silver and gold parts and decorated in the same technic as hilt. Very beautiful locket.  The shashka is in original great condition.

In 1903-1904  were decided to accept one type of shashka.  According to Atamans opinion were decided to keep the same blade but feel free with decoration. That's why we can see great work done here.  
People who carried officer's shashka caucasian type (all uniforms):
all ranks of escort guard; generals and officers (сaucasus cossacks), Dagestanskiy Regiment, Osetinskiy Division, Adjutants and their escort; generals and officers of infantry, artillery, engineers (Caucasus).
People who carried officer's shashka asian type (all uniforms):
officers os 3, 15, 16, 17 and 18 (Novorossiysky, Pereyaslovskiy, Tverskoy, Nizegorodskiy and Severskiy) dragoon regiments; caucasian additional calvary division; 1 squadron of second additional calvary division; 7 squadron of seventh additional calvary division; caucasian artillery division.
Officer's shashkas (both type) were used even after 1917 by White Army and Red Army.
