BAR A2 light machine gun was adopted in 1941. Very good condition.
This is deactivated gun.
Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was created in 1917. According to all experience designers added selector mode and detachable magazine. In USA it was hand-held machine gun but with manoeuvrability as a rifle. Colt bought patent on Browning Automatic Rifle but other companies such as Marlin Rockwell and Winchester were able to produce as well. In February 1918 started BAR's production. During the WWI manufacturer did some tests but french and british placed orders anyway. Obviously french Shatelro machine gun was created under BAR influence.
BAR got Vickers Berthier 1908 type system. In 1937 army got light machine gun М1918А1 and it was different from М1918. Enfield M1917 type rear sight, folding front support and folding shoulder support. М1918А1 didn't reach same level as model 1922, and in 1940 model 1922 was discontinued.
In 1941 American army adopted BAR M1918A2 with different modes of fire - 300-450 shots per minute (F tag mode) and 500-550 shots per minute (A tag mode). Head of gas regulator was changed. Browning M1919 type rear sight, short fore-end with metal plate, slot-hole flame arrester and shorter shoulder support.
BAR was pretty popular gun during the War. But unfortunately BAR didn't guarantee long term fire support.
"New England Small Arms" and "IBM" produced BAR as well as "Marlin Rockwell", "Winchester Repeating Arms" and "Colt Patent Firearms". BAR had logo BROWNING BAR М1918 CAL 30 MFD BY … and manufacturer name. Early models came back to factories for upgrades up to М1918А2 level. In 1942 BAR got plastic gun-butt with metal bottom plate/nape and handle for carrying. From 1940 to 1941 BAR guns were exported to United Kingdom. American Marines preferred М1918А2 model. Well known many different "local modernizations" of BAR.
That time were produced about 1 million pieces of BAR. 350.000 pieces of 1922, М1918А1 and М1918А2 models from 1922 to 1945 made in USA. BAR М1918А2 was discontinued in 1957 but even till 1980th served to Army pretty well.
