The helmet was adopter October 18, 1803 by guard and army cuirass, dragoon and horse artillery, but had different  picture in front.  Black laquer leather with front and rare peak, two leather ears and support for hair crest. Black horsehair crest. Has yellow metal badge in front (gilding). Front peak has brass gilded trim. The helmet decorated with State Emblem. The leather thong is covered by gilded scales, the hook has "USN" stamp. Left thong separated (comes with helmet). Embossed scales (used to be flat before). Has rigid papier-mache basis with vertical holes and soft leather parts. Has special thong that helps regulate the helmet's depth (the helmet is very high). Has "550" number inside - means serial number in museum. In 1843 the helmet was replaced by the new one. The helmet is in an excellent condition with original metal parts. All brass elements has original gilding. Original horsehair sultan (used to wear with parade uniform or uniform).
This is very rare helmet as we can definitely say unique - because of almost brand new condition.
