A nice Colt M1911 A1 handgun, new oil blue finish, new serial number (BR 90). This is deactivated gun. During the military campaign on Philippines, USA realized that .38 calibre is low-power gun. Two guys - colonel Louis A. La Garde and colonel John Thompson (Thompson submachine gun) figured out that .45 caliber works better. At that time Browning used to work on .38 calibre but pretty quick moved to .45 calibre. It was pretty tough competition between main players. John met Fred Moore (Colt) and they started to work together. March 3, 1911 were tested all models and March 29 american army adopted Model 1911 (automatic gun). This model was designed by Browning and produced by Colt. Before WWII M1911 came out from Colt factory only, but later other main factories produced M1911 as well. At the beginning only calvary adopted M1911. Police didn't use this model at all. But later in 1920th the gun was modified. New model called Colt M1911 A1 Government Model and became the main officers gun. This model were used till the end of WWII. Latest models called «Commander», «Combat Commander», «Officer’s» («Defender»). There are many different modifications of Colt M1911. But we would like to mention Series 90. Series 90 has double action trigger. For example Colt Double Eagle (1990-1997). But Eagle was too heavy and didn't used a lot. Later Colt M1911 was replaced by Beretta 92. Anyway Colt M1911 is one of the most popular guns in USA even today.
